Two goals by Medina Piti guided Rayo Vallecano to their third consecutive victory as they propelled themselves to seventh in the Primera Division with a comfortable 3-1 win over Getafe.

Alhassane Bangoura put Rayo ahead with Piti doubling the lead before the same player all but ended the match as a contest seven minutes after the break.

Paco Alcacer pulled one back midway through the second half but they could not breach the home defence again and victory was comfortable enough for Rayo.

The teams started the match with the hosts just one point and one place ahead.

Leo Baptistao had the first real effort on target for Rayo, which was blocked, with Miguel Michel firing over for the visitors.

Bangoura's effort was comfortably gathered by Getafe goalkeeper Miguel Moya but the same player was not to be denied moments later as he put Rayo ahead, smashing the ball into the roof of the goal with just 14 minutes on the clock.

Diego Castro had an attempt from distance that did not trouble Rayo as Getafe looked to respond.

Rayo almost doubled their lead when Baptistao's right-footed shot was tipped round the post by Moya, who was then forced to parry a cross from Piti.

The hosts got their second goal shortly after when Martinez Javi Fuego crossed from the right and Piti drilled into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal.

Getafe had little response and Rayo were comfortable going into the break.

If the visitors harboured any hopes of getting back into the game they were all but extinguished seven minutes after half-time when Piti got his second goal.

Baptistao's pass from the right found Piti on the left of the area and he swept the ball home.

Getafe had engineered little of note but they almost quickly pulled one back although Martinez Ruben parried Jaime Gavilan's header while Alvaro Vazquez's 20-yard shot came back off the post.

The improvement in Getafe's attack saw them pull a goal back after 65 minutes, Xavi Torres' right-wing cross headed home from close range by Alcacer.

Moya parried efforts by Martinez Javi Fuego and Baptistao while Piti fired over as Rayo reasserted their dominance.
