CHRISTMAS TURKEYS ... Redknapp's QPR side are still in big trouble

FORGET ho-ho-ho! Harry Redknapp says this Christmas was more low-low-low!

As the nation finished opening presents, the QPR boss gave a fascinating insight into the ups and downs of life as a Premier League manager.

’Arry admitted that even after more than 30 years in the dugout he is a nightmare to live with after a defeat.

And that his Hoops’ 1-0 loss at Newcastle on Saturday completely ruined his Christmas Day.

Redknapp, whose struggling side host West Brom this afternoon, said: “I spent all day thinking about football all the time, nothing else. I couldn’t switch off.

“The trip back from Newcastle was one of the worst ever.

“Saturday night coming home for me was like, phew, terrible.

“It’s ridiculous really. I get so low it’s scary. Horrendous. You have to pick yourself up, but it’s just a nightmare. You think ‘Is it right? Is it worth it?’

“When my wife Sandra sees what I’m like at the weekend she probably wishes I wasn’t back at work. I can’t help it, though, it’s just the way I am.

“I can’t be bothered with anyone. I’m just a f***ing nightmare, an absolute nightmare. It’s scary, it’s wrong.

“You’d think I’d have learnt after all this time.

“But I get so low it’s frightening.”

The defeat at Newcastle was Redknapp’s first in five games since taking over at relegation-threatened Rangers last month.

His mood was not helped by his defender Jose Bosingwa’s refusal to sit on the subs bench against Fulham the week before.

This led to ’Arry accusing some of his inherited stars of being over-paid.

Redknapp had no regrets about his outburst as he prepared for the visit of the Baggies.

He said: “You go and ask Ryan Nelsen and people like that if they think I’m right.

“The good lads have not got a problem with it. They know I’m not talking about them. But if the cap fits...

“Listen, I’m not talking about most of the lads, who have been fantastic.

“Absolutely brilliant. I’m just talking about one or two, not eight or nine. There are a couple of players here who have not given value for money and have got attitude problems.

“Who is any player to say they won’t sit on the bench?

“The Ryan Nelsens and Clint Hills and all the good lads in the dressing room all thought it was a disgrace.”

Despite only one Premier League win this season, second-bottom Rangers remain just five points from safety.

And Redknapp hopes to bring in up to five players with Prem experience as early as possible in next month’s window.

Redknapp said: “We are still in touching distance. We are not out of it.

“I have got some players in mind but I’ve got to try to persuade them to come here.

“They have got to take a gamble like I did coming here.

“We will have to pay big wages if we are going to get some good players, that is for sure.

“If he gives you value for money, you don’t mind.

“It is when you don’t get value for money you get upset about it.”
