Harry Redknapp: I can save QPR – and win FA Cup!HARRY REDKNAPP watched his new QPR players get thumped at Old Trafford, then insisted: I can save them — and win the FA Cup.

Former Spurs boss Redknapp was yesterday handed a £7.5million contract at Loftus Road, just 24 hours after predecessor Mark Hughes was sacked.

Rangers are bottom of the table with four points from 13 games.

The new boss, who has a 2½-year deal, looked on from the stands as QPR lost 3-1 to Manchester United to remain the only club in the country without a win.

Redknapp declared: “When I began my second spell at Portsmouth we had already been written off but managed to stay up. And, three years later, we won the FA Cup.

“It’d be fantastic to think we could do something similar here.

“And when I went to White Hart Lane they were right in it, too. I’d love to make it a hat-trick by turning it around at QPR.”

Redknapp, 65, believes Rangers’ first-team stars are to blame for their plight.

He said: “The players have not performed to their potential. The buck stops with them. They need to start performing.”

However, Redknapp confessed he almost became manager of the Ukraine.

He added: “At the start of the week I was all set to take the job in Ukraine, I really fancied international management.”

Meanwhile, Mark Bowen, who took charge of the QPR team with goalkeeping coach Eddie Niedzwiecki yesterday, admits he could be following Hughes out the door.

Bowen said: “I haven’t spoken to Harry, he didn’t have any input today.
“Friday was desperate because Mark is a friend of mine.

“Harry will have his own plans. We have to wait and see.”

Those plans look set to include loyal Redknapp lieutenants like Joe Jordan and Kevin Bond and leave no place for Bowen and the old Hughes guard.
