Platini to probe alleged racism by Lazio fans aimed at Spurs stars Lennon and Defoe

Food for thought: UEFA President Michel Platini (centre) was in the crowd at White Hart Lane
Chelsea condemned a small minority of their fans after they sung about QPR’s Anton Ferdinand during a Champions League match against Genk last season and Di Matteo again insisted football must drive out a persistent problem in the game.
He added: ‘Fans have the right to express their opinions and their feelings, but in the right way. Our fans are brilliant. They always support the team. We condemn any kind of discrimination or comments or racist abuse, absolutely.
‘We’d like our supporters and the supporters of others to respect each other. Football has always been a sport that has united people and that is the message to all.
‘There are some campaigns already going on and we can try to do more. As a society we have to do something about it — not just in the football grounds. You can find these things in every walk of life.’
