Shelvey: Liverpool players disappointed by lack of signings

Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has told talkSPORT that he and his team-mates were disappointed in the club’s failure to replace Andy Carroll.
The giant Geordie joined West Ham United on-loan near the end of the transfer window and it appeared manager Brendan Rodgers had a plan up his sleeve to bring in a new striker.
When the deadline shut, though, no forward had been signed leaving the Reds light up front, which has left some players disgruntled.
But Shelvey is looking to use it to his advantage as he looks to cement a place in the Liverpool first-team.
He told Call Collymore: “As a team, when the transfer window passed we were all disappointed that we didn’t get to bring anyone in but that’s when we’ve all got to step up to the plate.
“We’re going to have to break down teams because we haven’t got a plan b. We can’t lump it up the pitch because we haven’t got the kind of player to do that. We need to keep being patient and keep working on openings.
“[Brendan Rodgers] said he sees me as a goal threat and I had a few chances today but I couldn’t score but hopefully it will come.”
