The former Fulham manager was also happy with how his side maintained their assault on the Moldovan goal throughout the 90 minutes.
'I was pleased with the way we played, especially in the first half,' he said. 'We attacked and defended well, we were quick to get the ball back and smother any opportunities they may have had on the counter attack.
'At 3-0 at half-time it was pleasing. There was always the risk it would get too easy. We played some good football and scored two more goals.'
Chelsea defender John Terry did not finish the game after picking up a knock and, with the Ukraine game not too far away, Hodgson said: 'I will have to see what the doctors tell me.'
