We need a miracle to win the World Cup, says England captain Gerrard

‘If we win or draw we will have money,’ said Moldova captain Alexandru Epureanu. ‘But we are not here for the money. The most important thing is to play England.’
Moldova are ranked 141st in the world and have not scored a goal in almost a year. But they seem confident of delivering a surprise against an England team without many key players, including star striker Wayne Rooney.
Hodgson confirmed there are nine players missing whom the England manager would have liked to have selected while James Milner, Theo Walcott and Joleon Lescott barely trained at the Zimbru Stadium.
‘I’m fully aware the task of qualifying is an important one,’ said Hodgson. ‘A World Cup in Brazil has a slightly greater allure than World Cups in the countries where it’s been recently.
‘We know what we have to do, we’re going to try and do it. But this is football, you don’t get what you want by talking about it and saying the right things. You have to be good enough.’
