Hodgson opts against replacing Carroll in England squad

England manager Roy Hodgson has opted against calling up another striker despite Andy Carroll being ruled out of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, according to the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old made his West Ham debut on Saturday after sealing a season-long loan move from Liverpool and made several telling contributions as the Hammers beat Fulham 3-0.

However, he pulled up with a hamstring complaint after 68 minutes and was subsequently replaced by Carlton Cole.

Despite the continued absence of Wayne Rooney with a thigh gash for the games against Moldova and Ukraine, Hodgson is claimed to not be making any reinforcements to his squad.

Danny Welbeck, Jermain Defoe and Daniel Sturridge will now be the only recognised forwards in the Three Lions' squad.

Darren Bent, Peter Crouch and Bobby Zamora had been suggested as potential call-ups, despite all three missing out on the former Inter boss' Euro 2012 party.
