Former Mexico player and coach Hugo Sanchez has expressed his delight at the move of fellow countryman Andrés Guardado from Deportivo La Coruna to Valencia on a four-year contract.
"Valencia is one of the great and important teams in Spanish football," Sanchez told a press conference.
"I am convinced that Valencia will have a very good performance this season because the strong personality and leadership of Andrés," he added.
Guardado represented his country in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, scoring 13 goals in 82 international appearances.
Sanchez is certain that the winger will be an immediate success at his new club, praising his playing style and talent: "He is going to shine, like he has always done."
The former Real Madrid striker also commented on the future of Manchester United's Mexican poacher Javier Hernandez, whose game time is likely to be reduced by the arrival of Robin Van Persie from Arsenal.
"Javier has many qualities that he will continue to show and what he will need is continuity because when they gave it to him, he showed that he was effective," he claimed.
Guardado is likely to make his Valencia league debut away at Spanish champions Real Madrid on Sunday evening.
