Real Madrid's Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has declared his interest in someday joining Major League Soccer.
Speaking to Major League Soccer's official website, Ronaldo, who scored 46 goals in La Liga last season, praised the United States, before stating his hope to follow in the footsteps of players like David Beckham and Thierry Henry.
"Coming here, to do the preseason, for me is great," he said, "because this country is brilliant. The mentality of the people, the conditions, we are in the right place."
Ronaldo and his Real Madrid teammates are currently in the United States for a preseason tour. Los Blancos beat the LA Galaxy 5-1 on Thursday. Games against Santos Laguna, Milan and Celtic are scheduled.
"(The soccer here) is good, but it can be better. If I can help it to be better, soccer here, I can help. I think they are great, they are in a good way," he said. Then he gave a trademark wink. "I hope to come here to play one day."
