July was a Productive Month for the Los Angeles Galaxy: Fan’s Reaction

I have a say

In July 2012, the Los Angeles Galaxy played six regular season games and one friendly. They traveled to Chicago, Portland, Vancouver and Frisco, Texas. At the end of the month, they had earned 13 points and are now sitting comfortably in 5th place in the Western Conference. Indeed, it was a productive month for the Galaxy.

Goal Fest

During the month of July, the Galaxy were dangerous in front of the goal. They scored 14 of their 39 goals for the season. 10 of those goals were collected at away games. On July 14, the Galaxy had a goal fest in their 5-3 victory over the Portland Timbers. In July, David Beckham was responsible for three goals and four assists. Landon Donovan added three goals and three assists. Robbie Keane has been the most prolific contributor with five goals and four assists.

Road Victories

In 2011, the Home Depot Center was a fortress for the Los Angeles Galaxy who were unbeaten at home for the entire regular season. In 2012, the Galaxy are 4-5-1 at home. However, a series of recent road wins have allowed them to climb up in the standings. In July, with three wins and one draw, they are unbeaten on the road. Considering the Galaxy will be the "away" team for most of August, this winning momentum on the road is good news.

Players Stepping it Up

At the beginning of the season, we seemed to lack depth. Our rookies weren't performing. Our veterans appeared sluggish and our Designated Players were having a hard time finding the back of the net. Yet, it appears that a post-championship "hangover" played a role in the Galaxy's slow start. However, eventually the players started holding each other "accountable." Our three DPs stepped up more and their attitude was contagious for the rest of the team. As a result, this summer Beckham, Keane and Donovan have been in impeccable form. Furthermore, even without Beckham and Donovan, the Galaxy were able to defeat FC Dallas on July 28. This collective effort is reminiscent of the champion team that took the Supporter's Shield and won the MLS Cup in 2011.
