Higuain calls for Modric signing

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain hopes any deal to bring Luka Modric to the Primera Division champions will be wrapped up quickly.

Tottenham midfielder Modric has been linked with the La Liga champions and big-spending Ligue 1 side Paris St Germain, as well as Chelsea and Manchester United.

But Real are believed to be Modric's first choice move away from White Hart Lane after he failed to force through a switch to Barclays Premier League rivals Chelsea last season.

"I saw at Modric at Euro 2012 and also at Tottenham," Higuain told www.as.com.
"He is a player who loves the club and us. I wish to close the deal as quickly as possible if it is for the good of the team."

Real president Florentino Perez is looking to finalise the structure of the deal in the knowledge he could be forced to make a considerable offer after Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy rejected the £40m bid from the Chelsea last summer.

Higuain also played down rumours of his potential departure from the Santiago Bernabéu.

He said: "I do not regret anything I've lived here. I could fulfil dreams and win titles, hopefully this year we will be the Champions."

Higuain also insisted the signed shirt he was given by his team mates at the end of last season was not a farewell gift.

The 24-year-old Argentine sparked talk of an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu when he was presented with a shirt from his team mates during their title parade.

However, now he seems intent on repeating the title-winning campaign and put to bed rumours of a move away from the club.

Higuain said: "This year I'm able to start work at the beginning of the pre-season and I'm really looking forward to it. I feel strong.

"I hope this season is as good or even better than last year's, and that we achieve our individual and collective objectives. I'm as excited as the first day I arrived here and looking forward to winning titles."

"I'm well aware of the club I'm at and who I play with. I'm relaxed. The shirt my team-mates gave me at the end of the campaign was not a farewell gift; I asked them to sign it as a memento.

"The affection my team-mates and the fans had for me gave me strength to stay on. I only thought about the team throughout the season. Everyone's affection after the last match was beautiful; I had never experienced something like it."

Higuain, who scored 30 goals in all competitions last season, is positive ahead of the new campaign.

He said: "There are few of us here now. Most will return in the next few days. This season will be tough and long, but the squad looks optimistic and ready to do well. I hope the campaign proves to be fruitful for us."
