Belgian eBay fans dump eliminated Dutch

I have a say

A group of Belgian fans, who backed Holland after their own team failed to qualify for Euro 2012 and after their neighbours 'bought them on eBay, are looking for a new team after the Oranje crashed out of Euro 2012.

The fans had set up a Facebook group, 'Belgian soccer fans for sale for Euro 2012', which has grown to 20,000 members, while explaining if they were 'adopted' for a fee they would donate all proceeds to UNICEF.

"Second hand but mint condition. Not been used since FIFA World Cup 2002 (the last time the national side reached a major finals)," they explained.

An anonymous Dutch buyer stepped in before the tournament and will donate 3,000 euros to Nordschool, a UNICEF project providing education to children living in countries hit by conflict.

But with the Dutch having come bottom of Group B the group returned to eBay.

By Monday afternoon only three bids had been made - and for a modest 20.5 dollars (16.24 euros).

The fans are offering "to watch their adopted side's matches and wear their colours, wave the flag and perhaps even learn the national anthem."

Having 'grieved' for 24 hours after the demise of the Dutch the group pleaded with potential buyers: "Please, if you have a national team that can at least rub a little balm on our tortured fans' hearts - buy us!"
