Another Dortmund player will join Man Utd claims his national team coach

Poland striker and Euro 2012 opener hero Robert Lewandowski is off to Manchester United, according to Polish coach Franciszek Smuda. Lewandowski was part of the Bundesliga winning Borussia Dortmund side, and scored 22 goals in 34 appearances last season.

Lewandowski scored the opening goal of the Euro 2012 tournament against Greece today and would certainly be under the scanner from here-on both for his on-field performances and for his coach’s comments. Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be a keen admirer of Lewandowski, and watched him score a hat-trick against Bayern Munich at the 2012 DFB-Pokal final. ‘Lewy’ recently had a breakdown in talks with Dortmund with his agent claiming that their offer was not enough and that there was interest in Manchester United.

United though have already raided Dortmund once this season, having signed Japanese attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa, and it unlikely that the German giants would want to do more business with the Red Devils in the near future.

As far as Lewandowski is concerned, it is probably best that both he and the coach concentrate on doing their best at Euro 2012, rather than speculating on his future. With Poland not really expected to get past the Group Stage, there will be plenty of time to force a move in the weeks to come!
