HARRY REDKNAPP says his refusal to talk ‘cobblers’ cost him the England job.

The FA picked diplomatic West Brom boss Roy Hodgson over outspoken ’Arry.

And although the Tottenham chief was the people’s favourite for the Three Lions hotseat, Redknapp admits he would have never fitted the mould.

He said: “I’m not really one for being careful about every word I say. If you’re going to sit down and keep talking a load of cobblers, what’s the point?

“I get aggravation from people now saying, ‘You shouldn’t have said that’.

“Well, I’m sorry... don’t put me in front of the cameras if you don’t want me to say something I want to say.

“If you ask me a question, I’ll tell you what I think. Simple.”

Redknapp heard Hodgson was the new national boss on his car radio on the way home from Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Blackburn on Sunday. When the speculation started over Fabio Capello’s successor, Spurs went on a run of just two wins in 10 league games.

Redknapp added: “I was quite relieved on Monday when I woke up and all of that England stuff was out of the way.

“Done, finished and we can all move on. It was non-stop speculation but I didn’t lie in bed thinking, ‘What’s my England squad going to be’? I only ever thought about Tottenham.”

Fulham coach Ray Lewington has been appointed as Hodgson’s No 2.

The pair were together at Craven Cottage. Hodgson said: “The players will, I’m sure, enjoy working with him.”
