On-loan Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has admitted he would like to stay in the Premier League next season.
The 22-year-old has netted six goals in eleven appearances for the Welsh club and his exceptional performances have alerted a host of top European clubs.
But he has revealed he’d like to remain with Swansea should they be able to thrash out a deal with his parent-club Hoffenheim.
“I’m enjoying football here and as I’ve always said it’s not up to me,” said the Icelandic star. “I’ve got another couple of seasons on my contract.
“I’m really enjoying my football here in England and hopefully I can stay in the Premier League. It’s down to Swansea and Hoffenheim what happens.”
Meanwhile his manager, Brendan Rodgers, hopes that Sigurdsson’s love for the club and the city will be enough to tempt him to stay in Wales permanently.
“I think everybody has seen his abilities and qualities since he’s come in,” he added. “A goalscoring midfield player is very hard to find but that will be up to the board and the club to see what they can do [about signing him].
“Gylfi loves being here. He loves his training. He loves the work. He loves the city. So we’ll see how that goes between now and the end of the season.”
