TOP TARGET ... Luka Modric
ROBERTO MANCINI has set alarm bells ringing at Tottenham by admitting he is a big fan of midfielder Luka Modric.
The Croatian came desperately close to leaving White Hart Lane last summer when Chelsea were leading the charge.
Manchester City boss Mancini has revealed he views Modric, 26, as one of the top players in the Premier League.
But the Italian feels it will be hard to prise him away from the North London club.
Speaking on his 'pilgrimage' to Bosnia this week, Mancini said: "Luka Modric is an outstanding footballer, a great player.
"He is definitely one of the best in the Premier League.
"But it is by no means easy to get him because he plays for a big club, Tottenham. It is unlikely that they would let him leave.
"We are lucky to have another great player from these parts in Edin Dzeko.
"I have worked with quite a few players from these parts — not just Croatians, but Bosnians, Serbs and Montenegrins.
"I have many friends among them and I am very proud of it.
"They are really something special and they mostly play with invention and creativity."
Mancini admitted the trip to Medjugorje had given him a boost ahead of the last big push in the Premier League title race.
Now he is praying for a happy outcome and said: "You can really fill your batteries here.
"Millions of people come here and they leave as better people.
"Faith has helped me and helps me a lot in life. I cannot say that it helped me in my playing and coaching career because the Lord has more important things to do."
