Van Bommel: Now Juventus knows that AC Milan is stronger

AC Milan midfielder Mark van Bommel believes that his side's title credentials have been enhanced following Saturday's 1-1 draw against Juventus at San Siro.

The Serie A champions were unable to increase their lead over the Bianconeri at the head of the table as a late Alessandro Matri rescued a point for the visitors.

Van Bommel rued the fact that the officials did not see Sulley Muntari's goal, which would have given Milan a 2-0 lead early on.

"I had never seen anything like that in my career," van Bommel told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"At the end of the match, [Juventus coach Antonio] Conte told me I should not be angry because his team had also had a goal disallowed, but we could have been up 2-0 with Muntari's goal and we could have scored more after that.

"Matri's disallowed goal could have happened when they were down by three, four or even five goals. I only remember an error like this at the World Cup in South Africa, in the match between England and Germany."

However, the Dutch midfielder then pointed out that the match was a confidence boost for his Milan team and stressed that his side remain favorites in the Scudetto race.

"The match against Juventus has done us really well from a mental point of view," Van Bommel noted. "It was not nice to see Muntari's goal disallowed, but mentally-speaking, we have improved. Now Juve know we are stronger."

Milan visits Palermo on Saturday in its next Serie A fixture.

The Netherlands international expressed his dismay at the linesman's mistake, but stressed his side are mentally stronger after the match against the Old Lady
