Ronaldo smug over United return

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo admitted to former teammate Rio Ferdinand that he is not ruling out a return to Manchester United in the future.

The Portugal international broke the world record transfer fee in 2009, when he joined Madrid from Manchester United in a £80million deal after helping the Red Devils to win three Premier League titles and one Champions League crown, among other trophies.

He has since then gone on a phenomenal scoring run in the Spanish league with 94 goals in 86 games.

However, Ronaldo was recently jeered by the Santiago Bernabeu crowd after missing the net against title rivals Barcelona and the Portuguese superstar was reportedly unhappy with the treatment although he made no statement nor action of his dissatisfaction.

Ferdinand used the weekend off the Manchester United squad was given due to their exit from the FA Cup in Spain, where he caught up with Ronaldo after Real Madrid's 4-0 win over Racing Santander in which Ronaldo scored a goal.

The 33-year-old announced on his Twitter account: "Me + @Cristiano [Ronaldo] after the game! Reminiscing about when we were team mates! He still cracks me up, the mad man!"

The England man then uploaded a short interview with Ronaldo onto his social media app, where he questioned his former team-mate on a return to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo said: "You never know, my friend."

The former Sporting Lisbon talent also stated that he is determined to break the record for the most La Liga goals in a single season, which he holds after netting 40 times in the competition in 2010-11.

"Will I break my record? Of course, man," he said.

Ferdinand jokingly tweeted later that evening about attempting to bring Ronaldo back to Manchester with him.

"Been up all night.....trying to find a body bag to put a certain person in....!!

"Just don't think a fit + well @Cristiano would get through airport security in a body bag!"
