Court battle ... Imogen Thomas and Man United star Ryan Giggs
A JUDGE exposed Britain's worst-kept secret yesterday — by allowing Ryan Giggs to be named as the footballer who Imogen Thomas said was her lover in a notorious "superinjunction" row.
The Manchester United ace agreed to lift his anonymity order — ten months after he was outed on Twitter.
Giggs, 38, won an injunction last April which barred The Sun from naming him as the Premier League star linked to former Miss Wales and Big Brother contestant Imogen, 28.
But the ruling was immediately mocked as thousands of Twitter users and other publications identified Giggs.
Speaking under Parliamentary privilege weeks later, Lib Dem MP John Hemming joked: "With about 75,000 people having named Ryan Giggs, it is obviously impracticable to imprison them all."
Despite that a court continued to uphold the injunction.
But Mr Justice Tugendhat said at the High Court in London yesterday that the gagging order was no longer needed to shield the Wales international.
