Missile ... ref inspects
COPS are investigating after a goalie kicked the ball into the crowd injuring two fans.
Notts County keeper Stuart Nelson was furious when he let in a goal.
That put his team 2-0 down to home side Hartlepool United and he lashed the ball into their supporters' end.
It hit one fan on the arm and ricocheted into another's head, leaving both needing first aid.
Some furious home fans then hurled missiles at Nelson, 30, and HE needed treatment for a head injury. A supporter complained to police over the ball being kicked into the crowd during last Saturday's League One match at Victoria Park.
The goal that triggered the incident was midfielder Antony Sweeney's second. United went on to win 3-0.
Pauline McSweenie, secretary of United's supporters' association, said: "Fans throwing objects on to the pitch is a big no, no. It can come back and potentially damage the club. There is never an excuse."
A United spokesman said the club would look into the incident. A spokesman for Notts County said: "The club is aware of it but won't be making a comment at present."
Cleveland police confirmed: "We are investigating."
