Manchester City’s De Jong goodbye

NIGEL DE JONG is set to be sold by Manchester City at the end of the season.
The defensive midfielder has refused to sign a new contract and has only 18 months left on his current deal.
De Jong has been offered an increase on his £75,000-a-week deal to £100,000 — but believes he is worth much more.
City are standing firm on their offer and are now open to bids for the 27-year-old Dutch international in May.
De Jong was signed from Hamburg for £17million in January 2009 by Mark Hughes and became an immediate fans' favourite for his no-nonsense, combative style.
With such a short time left on his contract, City can probably expect only around £10m when he moves on.
Initially, he was the linchpin of City's team but has not been a regular first choice this campaign under Roberto Mancini, with Yaya Toure, Gareth Barry and James Milner all ahead of him in midfield.
De Jong has started only four games so far this season.
