Real Madrid said defender Sergio Ramos picked up a left thigh strain during the 6-2 win against Sevilla.
Ramos played the whole of Saturday's match but complained of discomfort in the area and was submitted for tests Sunday.
The injury is not thought to be serious, though Madrid has not revealed how long the player is likely to be sidelined.
Madrid host third-tier Ponferradina in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday but the Christmas break means the next league match is three weeks away.
Ramos tweeted that he hopes to be back "as soon as possible."
