Liverpool looking to Tottenham for midfield reinforcements

Reports are suggesting that Liverpool may look to Tottenham this January as they strive to fill a gap in the midfield left vacant by the long-term injury of Lucas Leiva.

It was uncovered last week that the Brazilian anchorman would miss the rest of the season after suffering an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in the Carling Cup clash against Chelsea.

Lucas had a monumental season for the Reds in 2010/11, in which he cemented himself as a key figure in the Liverpool squad, namely stepping up in big matches.

The news means that the Merseysiders are without an established holding midfielder and may have to dip into the transfer market once more if they are to make their return to the Champions League qualifying places.

Huddlestone presents a proven player with a load of Premier League experience already under his belt, but struggles to earn a place in the Spurs starting setup in what is a very talented midfield.

Scott Parker, Luka Modric, Jake Livermore and Sandro are just some of the central alternatives that manager Harry Redknapp has at his disposal, which may lead to Huddlestone seeking his match time elsewhere.

At a valuation of £7m, the 24 year-old England international may prove too pricey for what is essentially a temporary solution however looking at the 2010/11 spending trend of the relatively-newly owned club, funds could be readily available.
