Jones: Don’t measure Rooney by his goal tally

Phil Jones believes it is wrong to criticise Wayne Rooney for his lack of goals because he does so much important work for Manchester United in other areas.
Before Rooney’s brace in the 4-1 win over Wolves, the England striker hadn’t netted since mid-September.
But Jones feels that those who condemn his form on the basis that he isn’t scoring many goals don’t appreciate what he does for the overall balance of the United team.
"Wayne was brilliant [against Wolves]," he said."But he still has an influence on the team even when he is not scoring.
"The things he does off the ball are terrific as well. People sometimes don't take that into consideration.
"They look at his goal tally and think he is not doing well but he has been terrific for us."
