Funeral ... Gary Speed was buried yesterday

TRAGIC Gary Speed was laid to rest yesterday in a private family funeral.

Relatives mourned the footie ace at the church where he wed wife Louise, 41.

Last night soccer pal John Hartson paid tribute to Gary's grieving family for asking fans to support his cancer charity.

Former Wales and West Ham striker Hartson, 36, could not be at the North Wales funeral as he was opening a new £3million Maggie's specialist cancer centre in Swansea, backed by the John Hartson Foundation.

But he said yesterday: "I spoke with Gary's father Roger to say I could not make it, but my thoughts are with him and his family.
"Gary was always very supportive of the foundation. It means an awful lot."

Dad-of-two Gary, 42, was found by Louise hanged at their mansion in Huntington, Cheshire, last month.

A public memorial service for the ex-Leeds and Newcastle star will be held in February. An inquest will be held next month.
