Fergie’s Raving about Morrison

ALEX FERGUSON tonight unleashes one of the greatest talents to come through Manchester United's youth system.

His name is Ravel Morrison — and remember that because he has everything to be a star.

Some who have watched him develop through the youth and reserve teams at United believe he could be as good as Ryan Giggs or David Beckham.

As the midfielder prepares to make his first senior start against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in the Carling Cup, it all sounds too good to be true.

And, sadly. it is, for Morrison has a side that has seen him on the wrong side of the law and threatens his future.

The 18-year-old from Wythenshawe in Manchester has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

In January he pleaded guilty to witness intimidation and was given a 12- month referral order.

Four months later he was fined after admitting criminal damage following a row with his girlfriend.

And on Twitter he complained about being left on the bench in a reserve game against Everton. He tweeted 'p***take' and added: 'I can not waite till the end of the season'.

Wayne Rooney immediately knocked him down, tweeting back: 'might come sooner than you think!!!!'

Yet tonight might just be the start for a player who led United to FA Youth Cup glory last season, scoring two in a 4-1 second-leg win over Sheffield United to seal a 6-3 aggregate triumph in the final.

He is described on United's website as a "supremely gifted talent." Yet the club have still delayed signing Morrison on a new contract beyond the end of this season.

Boss Ferguson certainly has faith in his raw ability and registered him as a squad member for last week's Champions League game against Benfica.

He has now hinted at his first start tonight and Ferguson said: "Ravel's a very talented boy."
