Helping children ... David Beckham will promote food store's work with youngsters
SOCCER hero David Beckham was yesterday unveiled as the new face of Sainsbury's.
The former England captain will front its Active Kids campaign and promote the store's sponsorship of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
The announcement comes four months after celeb chef Jamie Oliver said he would end his 11-year stint as the face of Sainsbury's.
Like Oliver, 36-year-old LA Galaxy and England star Becks will appear in adverts. But the deal is designed to highlight Sainsbury's work with children rather than its products.
The supermarket wants to stem the growth of obesity among kids and also aims to get a million youngsters to try a Paralympic sport.
Dad-of-four Becks said: "I am looking forward to working with Sainsbury's to help kids have fun."
