John Terry calls on Fabio Capello to pick him

JOHN TERRY last night pleaded with Fabio Capello to select him for England — despite the Anton Ferdinand race row.

Skipper Terry has told the FA he is innocent and should still lead Capello's Three Lions in this month's Wembley friendlies against Spain and Sweden. The defender vehemently denies he racially abused Ferdinand during Chelsea's 1-0 defeat at QPR on October 23.

On Tuesday, the Met Police confirmed they were investigating claims of alleged racial abuse.

Terry, 30, will be quizzed by cops over accusations he called Ferdinand a "f****** black ****". England manager Capello has put the Chelsea captain in his provisional squad but recognises it is a delicate situation.

He wants to examine all the evidence the FA have and discuss the matter with his bosses.

The Italian will reveal his final squad on Sunday evening — and England insiders rate JT's chances of being named as 50-50.

Rio Ferdinand, Terry's long-time international defensive partner, wore a 'United Against Racism' armband for last night Champions League clash with Otelul Galati.

The Manchester United star's action showed his support for younger brother Anton — and also underlined possible friction in the England camp.

Chelsea have vowed to hunt down the fans who shamed the club with abusive chants about Ferdinand during Tuesday night's 1-1 Champions League draw with Genk in Belgium.

Hundreds of supporters repeatedly sang 'Anton Ferdinand, you know what you are.' UEFA are unlikely to take disciplinary action — the ref did not mention it in his report — but the Blues are ready to ban any culprits identified by TV footage.

A club spokesman said: "The chanting by a vocal minority was wholly inappropriate.

'We will be working with the authorities to seek out those responsible. Chelsea FC believes — as we are sure do the vast majority of our fans — that all forms of discrimination are abhorrent and have no place in our society."

Some Chelsea followers claimed they were singing: 'Anton Ferdinand, you know you're a liar.'

But many others took to the internet to condemn the reaction.
