Harry Redknapp aims to build a team around Scott Parker to restore Tottenham’s glory days.

Spurs have yet to lose a Premier League match since Parker signed from West Ham in a £5.5m move on deadline day.

They beat QPR 3-1 with a goal from Rafael van der Vaart and a Gareth Bale double to go fifth.

And Spurs boss Redknapp said: “Scott is a fantastic player. I chased him all summer. You build good football clubs around him.

“I said to the chairman on the first day of pre-season training that Scott Parker is the player I want at this club – he’s top of my list.

“In the end we finally got there and he’s just what we need.

“The crowd love him. He’s in there, tackles, doesn’t give the ball away.

“It’s no coincidence at all we’re playing well since he arrived. It is not always about £25-£30m superstars. Sometimes it’s about having good characters.

“He’s got everything really as a fantastic all-round midfielder. He’s a great boy, a fantastic person.

“He’s a proper old-school player who loves playing, gets on with it and wants to win. That is what you need to be a successful team.

“Can we finish in the top

three? You never know. It’s wide open. I think there are six teams for four places.”

Two-goal Bale claimed Spurs have the confidence to go on and clinch a Champions League berth.

Bale, whose second goal was a stunner, said: “Definitely, the confidence is growing since the start of the season.

“We’ve been playing good stuff. And scoring goals is important, which we’ve been doing.

“It’s just good to get goals and help the team. In the first half we played some unbelievable stuff.”

QPR boss Neil Warnock said: “At half time it would have been easy to look at the game and think: ‘How many?’

“But we were fantastic in the second half. They’ve got such quality. I even found myself clapping their third goal.”
