Arsene Wenger insists he has nothing to fear ahead of Thursday’s AGM with Arsenal shareholders.
The meeting could well prove a stormy one for both the manager and the board as disgruntled Gunners’ diehards ask tough questions about the side’s desperate start to the season.
Yet Wenger, who will be joined by the club’s majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, has vowed to answer whatever comes his way.
He said: “I do not meet with the shareholders expecting anything good or bad or fantastic. I do my best for the club and then I can accept the judgement of everybody with a clear conscience.
“What happened in the last few months is that Arsenal qualified for the Champions League for the 14th consecutive time.
“We’re respected all over the world and are one of the few clubs who live with a really healthy financial situation when the whole world is bankrupt.
“There’s nothing to be ashamed of.
“We have not done well enough. I accept that. But we were very close to an exceptional season last year.
“Mathematically, we can still qualify for the Champions League for a 15th time.
“But we have to be realistic and first come back to a much stronger position.
“I believe the team’s getting stronger – so let’s focus on that, be humble and look back at the end of the season with no regrets.”
