Chris Smalling wants revenge over Sergio Aguero

SERGIO AGUERO helped shatter Chris Smalling's dream of ending his Fulham career with a Europa League winners' medal.

Now the Manchester United defender plans to repay him by putting a dent in the Argy's title hopes on Sunday.

Aguero set up Diego Forlan's crucial late strike that gave Atletico Madrid the trophy in Hamburg 17 months ago.

And Smalling remembers well how much trouble the £35million man caused his team-mates in the Nordbank Arena.

So he knows the Manchester City new-boy — who already has nine goals to his name — will give United plenty to think about at Old Trafford.

Smalling, 22, said: "He was a real handful playing up front with Forlan, he looked very sharp. Even then he looked like he would go for big money, and that's what happened.

"Since he arrived, he's really produced for City, scored some great goals and some very important ones.

"We'll have to keep an eye on him but hopefully it will be me celebrating this time.

"Getting revenge against him would be nice. I'm looking forward to trying.

"But it's not just him, we can't think too much about him when there's players like Silva and Nasri around, too."

Aguero was on the bench when Smalling grabbed one of the goals when City met United at Wembley in August's Community Shield.

That ensured the champions got their season off on the right foot and they will look to put Roberto Mancini's men in their place again on Sunday.

Smalling said: "We got a good point at Liverpool last weekend but we need to win this one.

"City are playing really well this season and they're top of the table but hopefully they won't be come Sunday afternoon."

While City look to Aguero for goals, United expect Wayne Rooney to come up with the goods again.

England new-boy Smalling was devastated by the three-game international ban handed out to his pal by UEFA last Friday.

But he said: "We were all shocked but since then he just seems to have carried on as normal — as you saw by his two goals in midweek.

"This is the sort of game he'll thrive in. We all remember that wonder goal he scored last year and I'm sure he's got a taste for more against them."

Victory over City would round off an excellent week for United after a 1-1 draw at Liverpool and beating Otelul Galati in the Champions League.

Smalling said: "We haven't had the best of luck against Liverpool in recent times so that was a big game for us to overcome.

"But this feels like the biggest game of the season with everything that is at stake.

"I didn't play in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley but I remember how disappointed everyone felt and we don't want that feeling again."
