With its stay in the North American Soccer League having come to an end, the Montreal Impact has wasted no time in making changes to the club in light of its entry into Major League Soccer next year.

The Impact’s whirlwind of changes continued on Wednesday as it announced the appointment of Mike Sorber as assistant coach.

As well as being a prominent former player in both MLS and the U.S. national team, Sorber worked with current Montreal Impact coach as an assistant with the U.S. National team from 2007 until the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“Mike's experience with both coaching and playing at the international level will be invaluable for our organization as we build towards 2012,” said Marsch. “He also has great knowledge of MLS players and teams, which will help us prepare for our inaugural season.”

Sorber is no stranger to Mexican soccer either, for it was in Mexico where he made his playing career debut with UNAM Pumas. He eventually made 50 appearances in the Mexican first division and was the first American player to be named in a Mexican league all-star team.

Despite having found a new assistant and goalkeeping coach for MLS, ex-assistant and goalkeeping coaches Mauro Biello and Gil Orriols Jansana will remain with the club, although their new roles have yet to be defined.
