Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia advanced to the Asian Champions League semifinals Tuesday despite losing 1-0 to FC Seoul.
After winning the first leg 3-1, the Saudi side’s disciplined defense spent most of the match protecting that lead. Seoul’s only goal came through Mauricio Molina with six minutes to go, with Ittihad advancing 3-2 on aggregate.
The former Colombia international collected the ball on the edge of the area and curled a shot into the top right corner of the net. The goal set up a tense finish but the closest Seoul could get after that was a misplaced header from Kang Jung-hun.
Al Ittihad last made it this far in 2009 when it lost in the final to the Pohang Steelers of South Korea 2-1.
