ROBERTO MANCINI has targeted £20million-rated Napoli hotshot Marek Hamsik as a possible replacement for Carlos Tevez.

The Manchester City boss could need another attacking option in the January transfer window if Brazilian club Corinthians renew their interest in Argie hitman Tevez.

Roberto Mancini now has a third transfer target at Napoli – £20million-rated Marek Hamsik.

The Manchester City boss, already keen on strikers Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi, has been raving about playmaker Hamsik (below) since his performance at the Etihad Stadium in the Champions League 11 days ago.

And City could need another attacking option in the January transfer window if Brazilian club Corinthians renew their interest in Carlos Tevez.

Corinthians are ready to offer a £10m deposit on Tevez with a view to completing a £40m deal.

A bid for the City striker who wants to move back to South America fizzled out in the summer.

Meanwhile, Mancini’s admiration for Hamsik, 24, is actually long standing, as he tried to sign him when he was in charge of Serie A giants Inter Milan. But he will face competition for the Slovakia captain if Napoli fail to reach the group stages of the Champions League.

That’s because another of the world’s super-rich clubs, Paris St-Germain, are also on Hamsik’s case.

And City’s neighbours Man United have also been linked with the Napoli star, who has been touted as an alternative midfield target to Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder for Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

But the strongest interest now appears to be coming from City.

Mancini and his bootroom staff were hugely impressed by Hamsik’s display at their ground.

City also lose influential midfielder Yaya Toure for up to six weeks in January, when he will be representing Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations.
