BARCELONA, Spain (AP)—Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo each scored his second hat trick of the season, leading Barcelona and Real Madrid to victories in the Spanish league on Saturday night following draws in midweek.

Messi scored on brilliant individual moves in the 26th and 78th minutes, and added a goal in second-half stoppage time, leading Barcelona over visiting Atletico Madrid 5-0. Messi also forced an own-goal by Miranda in the 15th, six minutes after David Villa had put Barcelona ahead.

Messi left a trio of defenders flatfooted as he used two sleek changes of direction on his first goal, dribbled across the front of the area and left behind a swarm of defenders before an angled shot for the second, then finished off a pass from Villa for the third.

Although just 24 years old, Messi has 127 league goals and 192 overall for Barcelona, moving within four of Laszlo Kubala for second on the club career list in both categories. Cesar Rodriguez leads with 195 in the league and 235 overall.

Messi has 12 goals in nine matches this season and leads the league with eight, one more than Ronaldo.

At Madrid, Ronaldo scored in the 39th minute and converted penalty kicks in the 51st and 84th to help Real defeat Rayo Vallecano 6-2. Gonzalo Higuain, Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema also scored for the hosts.

Miguel Perez Cuesta put Rayo Vallecano ahead after just 12 seconds and added a goal in the 55th minute. Madrid finished a man short when Angel Di Maria was ejected for in the 56th for a handball.

Betis (4-0), which plays Monday at Getafe, leads with 12 points, one ahead of Barcelona and Sevilla (both 3-2), and two in front of Real Madrid and Valencia (both 3-1-1).

Freddie Kanoute’s 18th-minute goal gave Sevilla a 1-0 win over Valencia, which saw Ever Banega put a 68th-minute penalty kick off a post. Sevilla’s Piotr Trochowski (56th minute) and Aritz Aduriz (71st) both received red cards, as did Valencia’s Julien Escude (68th).

Villarreal tied 1-1 at Athletic Bilbao, with Nilmar scoring for the Yellow Submarine in the 53rd from a cross by New Jersey-born forward Giuseppe Rossi.

LONDON (AP)—Peter Crouch scored on a header in the 57th minute, giving Stoke a 1-1 tie with visiting Manchester United and ending the Red Devils’ perfect start to the Premier League season.

Nani scored in the 27th minute for Man U, which was without injured forward Wayne Rooney. Manager Alex Ferguson said Rooney, who leads the EPL with nine goals, will be sidelined more than a week because of a hamstring injury.

Crouch’s goal was his first since Stoke bought him from Tottenham for a club record transfer of $15.5 million last month.

Demba Ba had a hat trick for fourth-place Newcastle (3-0-3) in a 3-1 home win over Blackburn, while Liverpool (3-2-1) climbed to fifth by beating Wolverhampton 2-1 at Anfield—the team’s first win in three league games. Roger Johnson had an own goal in the 11th minute, and Luis Suarez scored in the 38th.

Tottenham (3-2) won 2-1 at Wigan on goals by Rafael van der Vaart and Gareth Bale for its third straight victory. Robin van Persie scored twice for Arsenal in a 3-0 win over Bolton, giving him 100 goals for the Gunners. Fans sang “There’s only one Arsene Wenger!” the Arsenal manager under pressure for a 1-1-3 league start coming in.

Fulham held West Bromwich Albion to a 0-0 draw in a game between two of the division’s bottom four.

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP)—U.S. teammates Carlos Bocanegra and Maurice Edu scored in the first half for Glasgow Rangers, who routed Dunfermline 4-0 to strengthen their hold on first place in the Scottish Premier League.

Bocanegra scored on an 8-yard header in the ninth minute, his first league goal for Rangers (7-0-1) and second overall. Edu doubled the lead on a 20-yard, left-footed shot in the 17th, his second goal this season.

Steven Naismith scored twice in the second half for the defending champions, who stayed four points ahead of Celtic (6-2), which beat last-place Inverness 2-0 on first-half goals by Joe Ledley and James Forrest.

ROME (AP)—The two Milan teams finally won their first matches of the season in Serie A.

Inter Milan ended its five-match winless streak in all competitions, winning 3-1 at Bologna in the team’s first match after coach Gian Piero Gasperini was fired and replaced by Claudio Ranieri.

Giampaolo Pazzini scored in the 39th for Inter, but Alessandro Diamanti’s penalty kick tied the score in the 66th. Diego Milito converted a penalty kick in the 81st, after Archimede Morleo was ejected for fouling him inside the area, to put Inter back ahead in the 81st, and Lucio added a goal six minutes later.

Injury-plagued AC Milan edged visiting Cesena 1-0 on a fifth-minute goal by Clarence Seedorf.

Genoa, Juventus, Udinese (all 2-0-1) and Napoli (2-0-2) have seven points each following Napoli’s 0-0 tie against visiting Fiorentina. Defending champion AC Milan (1-1-2) has five points, one more than Inter (1-2-1).

BERLIN (AP)—Bayern Munich maintained its Bundesliga lead, winning 3-0 at home against Bayer on goals by Thomas Mueller in the fifth minute, Daniel van Buyten in the 19th and Arjen Robben in the 90th.

Bayern Munich (6-1) has outscored opponents 21-1 in the league and holds a two-point lead over Borussia Moenchengladbach (5-1-1), which beat Nuremberg 1-0 on Filip Daems’s 76th-minute penalty kick.

Lukasz Piszczek scored his first goal for Borussia Dortmund (3-1-1) in the 90th minute to rally the defending Bundesliga champion to a 2-1 victory at Mainz (2-4-1), which went ahead on Nicolai Mueller’s goal in the 33rd.

Schalke won its first game since the sudden departure of coach Ralf Rangnick by beating Freiburg 4-2. Wolfsburg beat Kaiserslautern 1-0 despite being down to 10 men and promoted Augsburg is still winless after drawing 0-0 at home with Hannover.

PARIS (AP)—Javier Pastore scored in the 43rd and 80th minutes after an initial goal by Kevin Gameiro, and Paris Saint-Germain won 3-0 at Montpellier.

Lyon and PSG (both 5-1-2) are tied for the league lead with 17 points, 14 goals for and seven goals against, with Toulouse (5-1-1) trailing on goal difference.

Lyon beat visiting Bordeaux 3-1 on goals by Bafetimbi Gomis in the seventh and 33rd minutes, raising his league total to six, and Michel Bastos’ goal in the 64th,

Toulouse won 1-0 at home against Nancy as Umut Bulut flicked home a cross from Franck Tabanou in the 59th.
