Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City now has to focus on making it way out of Group A in the Champions League, and feels if the club does progress it can go all the way.

The Etihad Stadium outfit grabbed a draw at home in its first ever game in the competition, against Napoli.

Now that the opener is out of the way, the Belgian defender feels that the focus can return to qualifying for the knockout stages and winning the competition.

"The first game is out of the way now and we can focus on getting out of the group," Kompany said. "From then on we have as much of a chance as everyone else."

Edinson Cavani gave Napoli the advantage in the second half, but a 75th minute free kick from Aleksandar Kolarov hit the back of the net as both teams settled for a point.

"I don't think we played in a bad way," said the City skipper. "We were 1-0 down against a good, strong Italian team and we came back to 1-1 and still had chances to score. Napoli proved that many teams can cancel themselves out and Villarreal will take points off people."

With the group wide open, Kompany thinks he knows the secret to progressing to the next stage.

"If you play in the Champions League people expect you to win at home but I guess the trick is to put yourself back into situations where you put pressure on yourselves to win games."
