Tottenham's Harry Redknapp warns Ledley King this season could be his last

I have a say

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has warned Ledley King that this season could be his last at the club unless he plays enough games.

King has had well-documented long-term knee problems and is unable to train properly due to his condition. The 30-year-old made just nine appearances last season and Redknapp claims he cannot afford another season like that one.

“Ledley’s a difficult one,” Redknapp said in an article in The Daily Mail. “He has to play this year. I can't go to the chairman and say: "Give Ledley a contract," if he has only played two games, because he isn't going to do that.”

Redknapp allowed Jonathan Woodgate to leave this summer after the defender endured similar long-term injury problems, and the Tottenham boss has warned that King could suffer the same fate unless he gets himself on the pitch.

“This is Ledley's big year, he's got to play 20 games or so, really. Ledley needs to put some games in this year to get another contract.”

The central-defender has spent his entire career at White Hart Lane but Redknapp has grown increasingly frustrated at his captain's inability to manage his condition.
