West Ham boss Sam Allardyce confirmed that the £8m-rated midfielder is holding talks with Spurs in a bid to return to the Premier League.
He hopes it will help to keep his place in the England squad.
Allardyce said last night: “I am not in talks (personally) with them but there is some dialogue going on at the moment.
“That is all I am aware of. No deal has been struck so far.
“It all depends on whether somebody matches the valuation of the player.
“Scott has enjoyed his time at West Ham but he wants to leave to stay in touch with the England team and you can understand that.
“We just have to move on and wish him the best for the future.”
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said: “There is interest but I don’t know if it will happen. It’s just a case of if it’s doable.” England boss Fabio Capello names his squad on Sunday for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Wales.
Before that, Capello and assistant Franco Baldini will take in FIVE Premier League matches. The Italian duo aim to cover the matches today between Aston Villa and Wolves, Chelsea and Norwich and the tea-time clash between Liverpool and Bolton.
Baldini will then be at Old Trafford tomorrow for the showdown between Manchester United and Arsenal, while Capello watches Tottenham v Manchester City.
Starsport understands United newcomer Phil Jones, 19, who impressed Capello on his full debut against Spurs on Monday, will be among the 22.
