Manchester City's Misdits on the move

Manchester City will begin a desperate attempt to unload players Roberto Mancini no longer wants.

MANCHESTER City boss Roberto Mancini has persuaded the club to let him offload his long list of highly paid cast-offs.

The club have abandoned their policy of not supplementing loan deals in a desperate attempt to unload the players Roberto Mancini no longer wants. Throughout the summer all inquiries to take Manchester City’s spare players have been met with demands that all of the player’s wage must be met by the interested club.

That has left the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz, Wayne Bridge, Craig Bellamy and Shaun Wright-Phillips in limbo – much to the annoyance of Mancini, who has no intention of naming most of them in his final Premier League 25-man squad.

Now after talks with the City hierarchy, he has managed to persuade them that even though it will cost them more cash, it will be better for the longer term policy of trying to win the title.

It will mean he won’t be left with frustrated players likely to rock the boat during a critical season.

City’s attitude has softened in the last few weeks in talks with Tottenham, who are close to signing former Arsenal striker Adebayor on loan. There was no way Spurs could afford to subsidise all of the player’s £170,000-a-week pay.

An agreement that Spurs will stump up half will pave the way to Adebayor landing at White Hart Lane.

The change in policy will also mean Sunderland having a better chance of snapping up Bellamy until the end of the season, Bridge joining neighbours Newcastle and Wright-Phillips moving to Bolton, although that could turn into a permanent deal.

Mancini admitted: “It’s been a problem because we haven’t been able to move some players on.”
