HARRY REDKNAPP says Emmanuel Adebayor can be a hit at Tottenham - because Arsenal fans already hate him!
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is talking to Manchester City over a one-year loan deal for the former Gunners star.
And Redknapp said: "Arsenal fans hate him so ours will love him. He'll be a hero because he upset Arsenal."
Adebayor joined City from the Gunners for £25million two years ago.
He copped a three-match ban after kicking ex-team-mate Robin van Persie and running the length of the pitch to celebrate scoring against his old club in September 2009.
Spurs boss Redknapp revealed: "He called to thank me for my support when I stuck up for him after that incident.
"I said he was a bit over the top. But the Arsenal fans were giving him almighty abuse and so he was entitled to stick it to them when he scored that goal."
Spurs are still trying to thrash out a deal for City to pay half of Adebayor's £170,000-a-week wages.
The Togo striker, 27, spent five months on loan at Real Madrid last season - and scored twice against Spurs in the Champions League.
Redknapp added: "He was fantastic when we played Madrid. We couldn't handle him.
"He was almost unplayable when he was with Arsenal and that's why City paid £25m for him.
"If he comes to Tottenham with his head on and really wants to play, he could be sensational.
"The chairman has been talking to Manchester City about him and I genuinely don't know where they're at.
"But it's probably going to be a loan deal anyway so we can't go wrong."
Redknapp also confirmed he wants to sign his former Portsmouth midfielder Lassana Diarra, 25, from Real Madrid.
But he fears the Frenchman's huge wages could be a problem.
