Local Premier League rivals Liverpool and Everton have issued a joint appeal for the violence in the northern city to end after two nights of disorder.

The Premier League will decide Thursday whether any of the opening matches of the season this weekend will be postponed.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish says “the city has made incredible progress over the past few years and no one wants to see our restored reputation damaged by what we have witnessed.”

The rioting and looting that started in London on Saturday spread across England and saw the country’s international exhibition against Netherlands at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday called off.

Everton manager David Moyes says soccer “has already suffered and we need to ensure that this stops.”
