CALI, Colombia (AP)—A second Colombian city has banned fans from taking vuvuzelas to Under-20 World Cup matches after residents complained of the noisemaking instruments.
A day after Pereira city officials prohibited the vuvuzelas at the Hernan Ramirez Villegas venue, Cali officials did the same on Sunday after residents living near the Pascual Guerrero stadium protested.
Officials conducted a study to establish the noise level made by the vuvuzelas and concluded they were a nuisance.
The vuvuzelas were made infamous at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and made a comeback at the tournament in Colombia, especially in matches played by the host. They have not been banned in Bogota, however, where Colombia will play a second-round match against Costa Rica on Tuesday.
