Petr Cech says no manager lasts long at Chelsea as they can’t match Jose Mourinho

CHELSEA ace Petr Cech believes Roman Abramovich keeps firing managers because none of them can match Jose Mourinho.

Keeper Cech has now played for six different bosses in less than four years following the recent appointment of Andre Villas-Boas.

And he is praying the new man lives up to the standards set by Mourinho, who won two league titles and one FA Cup before he was sacked by the billionaire owner in September 2007.

Cech said: "Six managers have been appointed since I joined and apart from Jose, who was here for 3½ seasons, nobody lasted long.

"The philosophy at Chelsea is that they change the manager when they see there is no way to continue.

"All the managers had their philosophies. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

"But Jose set the standard and they have all had to try to do better than him.

"Many teams can end the season without a trophy and still say they had a good campaign. But it's hard to imagine anyone saying that at Chelsea.

"We were all disappointed to win nothing last season and we will be even more disappointed if we don't win a trophy next season."

Villas-Boas better pray that is not the case. After the way Carlo Ancelotti was dumped on the final day of last season, the new boss knows time is one commodity he will not get.

Cech added: "I hope there will be a way for Andre to continue for many years. It will help that he worked at Chelsea before but many things have changed since he was here with Jose.

"We have only been working together for a few weeks but everything has gone well.

"He has his own ideas but at Chelsea we have always had a strong defence and built from that.

"We haven't conceded in four pre-season games which is a good sign. We still have the quality and experience but also have a lot of young players helping us achieve positive results for the team."
