Tottenham are locked in a battle with Aston Villa and Lazio to clinch the signature of Lyon's highly-rated midfielder Miralem Pjanic.
Pjanic has been earning rave reviews in the French League and is expected to make a big-money move during the summer.
Tottenham were the strong favourites to clinch his signature and the Bosnia and Herzegovina international was seen as a ready made replacement for Luka Modric if he does leave White Hart Lane.
Aston Villa have also been linked with the 21-year-old, but reports in Italy are now suggesting that Lazio are now preparing a move to sign him.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito is determined to sign several big-name players before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
Lotito said: "We are looking at several foreign players. We are hoping that some surprises that can happen before August 31."
