Yaya sets his sights on winning the Premier League with City

YAYA TOURE plans to stun Manchester United for a third time - by nicking their Premier League title this season.

The Ivory Coast midfielder snubbed a move to Old Trafford two years ago and instead opted to team up with his brother Kolo at Manchester City last summer.

And Yaya came back to haunt Alex Ferguson in April as his second-half goal settled the FA Cup semi-final between the two bitter rivals at Wembley.

Now he believes Roberto Mancini's men have the confidence and momentum to push the Red Devils all the way at the top of the table and win their first league title since 1968.

The former Barcelona star said: "The season will be very hard. We need to improve because we'll be playing in the Champions League.

"But we expect to win this Premier League - we are playing with confidence, we know each other much better and we've won together.

"This year will be fantastic for us. We want to make history but for now we need to make sure we are fit and strong."

Toure has guaranteed his place in City folklore as he followed up his semi-final winner by bagging the only goal in the final against Stoke in May.

His second-half strike ended a 35-year trophy drought for the ambitious Blues and Toure reckons it was only the start.

The £24million ace added: "Scoring at Wembley was amazing. It was like a dream.

"But now we have more dreams because we are in the Champions League.

"The club is taking a new step. We need to work hard but we can write a new history for Manchester City.

"We are here to change the club's image. I want people to talk about City with more respect, that's why I signed.

"Very soon, we will be the top team in England - I'm sure of that. I've come here to make history."

The Blues' summer transfer dealings have been low key so far with defenders Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic - who cost £7m each - the only new arrivals.

But Toure expects more new faces before the big kick-off at home to Swansea on August 15 and believes City must follow the blueprint laid down by his old club Barcelona.

He said: "Clichy and Savic look good and we hope there will be more coming in. We need to have two or three players for every position to keep the balance at the same level.

"If we can, it will be fantastic. That's why Barcelona are always at the top, along with United and Chelsea.

"City can get that as well and I think this year will be fantastic."

Toure has circled a date in his diary eight days before City's season starts against new boys Swansea - the rematch with rivals United in the Community Shield.

The midfield powerhouse is out to make it a hat-trick of Wembley wins and added: "I came here to make history and I'd like to make it three wins in the Community Shield, that would be something special.

"It's important to win and show we have the quality to fight the big clubs."
