Newcastle United assistant manager John Carver has confirmed the club is expecting Jose Enrique and Joey Barton to report back for preseason training next Monday.

Both players' futures have come under scrutiny in recent weeks, particularly Enrique's, but Carver believes the Spaniard will continue to give his all to the club despite so far failing to sign a new deal.

"As far as we are aware, Jose will be back on Monday - I have been told nothing to the reverse - and he will be getting a warm welcome like he always does,” Carver told the Evening Chronicle.

"I know he will give us 100 per cent - he wouldn't dream of letting anybody down.

"As far as I know, everybody will be back, including Jose and Joey Barton, and it will be great to see them again.

"They are all still under contract and will be ready to start preparing for the new season with Newcastle United."

Enrique has 12 months of his contract left and has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool while Barton has been mentioned as a possible signing for Arsenal.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew has already brought in Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Marveaux but will be keen to sort out Enrique and Barton’s futures before the new campaign begins.
