Meanwhile, US X Factor bosses are saying they made the right decision by ditching troubled Cheryl.
A source said: "Everyone's breathing a sigh of relief. They were convinced to take on Cheryl by Simon Cowell but were uncomfortable with the choice from the start."
Former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne, 58, said Cheryl got the US job to "pacify" Cowell. But she dismissed claims that her Geordie accent got her sacked, saying American bosses "knew what they were getting".
Ashley, currently in LA, is so confident of wooing Cheryl again he is making plans for her birthday on June 30.
Her friend said: "He's had a game plan to win her back for months. It's all falling into place."
