“Club Atlas was very keen on Gaston and we made the decision to accept the offer based on the best interest of building our club,” said Fire Technical Director and Interim Head Coach Frank Klopas. “This move provides us with additional flexibility to find a player who will help us achieve our goal of making the MLS Cup Playoffs. We wish Gaston nothing but the best with his new club.”
Puerari joined the Fire prior to the start of the 2011 MLS season from Uguguayan team Montevideo Wanderers. He made 14 appearances for the Fire, starting ten games, and scored one goal and added two assists.
The move opens up salary cap room, as well as an international player spot for the Men in Red.
