Shearer snubs Cardiff after talks

ALAN SHEARER ruled himself out of the Cardiff manager's job late last night after holding shock talks with the Welsh club.
The England legend had emerged as red-hot favourite to replace Dave Jones, who was axed after the Championship play-off defeat to Reading in May.
Newcastle idol Shearer said: "I can confirm I was one of the candidates the club spoke to about the vacant manager's position at Cardiff City.
"During these talks I was most impressed with the vision, ambition and determination of the owner Dato Chan Tien Ghee and the board.
"Unfortunately, those talks were unsuccessful on this occasion.
"Cardiff City is a great club and I wish them every success next season."
Shearer, 40, was the bookies' 1-8 favourite to take over. But his decision leaves the way open for Watford chief Malky Mackay to land the job.
It was believed Cardiff's Malaysian backers were attracted by Match of the Day pundit Shearer's star quality.
He had eight games as temporary Newcastle boss in 2009 but could not save them from relegation.
